Jasprit Bumrah Told Me to Try Cross Seam
Ishant
Sharma had a considerable impact on the Test match against West Indies Vs India with
the bat and the ball. Initially, he stood by Ravindra Jadeja's side to get
those crucial points, whereas with the ball he was a force to be reckoned with.
Meanwhile, he attributes some of the success to Jasprit Bumrah for his
suggestion to try cross seams.
India
resumed its first rounds on the first day of the first test against the West
Indies, with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja on the limit. However, the home
team got rid of the pants early, reducing the Indian team to 207-7. Ishant
Sharma then joined Jadeja in the middle as the pair scored 60 points for the
8th wicket, Jadeja playing the role of the aggressor in the partnership.
His
half-century allowed India to reach almost 300, but he eventually lost his
wicket to Jason Holder as India's innings ended at 297 points. Ishant also
played 19 shots, scoring 62 pitches. He managed to survive the deadly fast
bowling of the Caribbean pacers. What followed was something special.
However,
the Indian coach attributed the good performance to the advice of his bowling
partner, Jasprit Bumrah, who advised him to try cross-sewing techniques. Ishant
used three of the three wickets in his last three races to complete his ninth
five-field run in the Trials as the West Indies scored 108 points with just two
points for the first run on Friday.
"There
was rain and after that, the ball got wet and nothing happened (with the ball).
So we thought we could play with a cross-sewing. There was a bounce. Bumrah
told me that we can try to seam because nothing happens," said Ishant, who
came back with 5/42 figures.
However,
from beginning to end, India's day of domination was punctuated by The Genius
of Ishant. It would be interesting to see how this would play out for him in
the remaining half of the Test match.
