Delhi Capitals Thinking to Buy Ajinkya Rahane
Delhi's
capitals are reportedly interested in buying star Ajinkya Rahane from Rajasthan
Royals for IPL 2020. The former Rajasthan Royals skipper had a mediocre season
with the bat last season. He had to give up the captaincy in the middle of last
season to not inspire the Royals to positive results. The Royals replaced
Rahane with Steve Smith as team captain after losing six of their first eight
games.
Rahane
was named team captain in 2018 after BCCI banned Smith from participating in
the IPL because of the ball-tampering scandal. Rahane's performance as captain
was not impressive at all, he won only 9 of the 23 matches he led. He was not
at his best, perhaps because of the burden of the captaincy. During his
captaincy in the past two seasons, Rahane scored 455 runs in 16 innings at an
average of 30.33.
In
the last season, he managed only 393 runs in 14 games, including one hit out of
105. Rahane has been with the Royals since 2012 and has been one of its
mainstays. Delhi's capitals are now looking to strengthen their ranks in
Rahane, according to Bangalore Mirror. The part of Delhi is full of young and
an experienced drummer like Rahane could be perfect for them. Delhi's capitals
are in negotiations with the royals now.
Delhi
performed very well last season to qualify for the playoffs and will want to continue
this promising season. They already have Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh
Pant and Prithvi Shaw in their ranks. The addition of Rahane will only
strengthen the stick. The media also claimed that the Royals were in
negotiations with Kings XI Punjab to exchange their K Gowtham pot with
Ravichandran Ashwin.
