Englishman All-rounder Moeen Ali
will take a "short break" from cricket after being dropped from the
team to face Australia in the second Ash Test Series 2019 this week.
The 32-years-old Moeen Ali
eliminated after scoring a duck and four in England's first Test defeat at
Edgbaston. Moeen Ali, a member of the World
Cup-winning team in England has been replaced by left-arm player Somerset Jack
Leach for the Lord's Test and his Worcestershire county reveals that Moeen Ali
now takes a short break from the cricket action.
Alex Gidman Worcestershire Coach said on Club’s Website that:
Moeen Ali spending a little
time away from the middle recharging his batteries and devoting a quality
practice time he feels he needs, and we fully respect him.
He has had an intense
international cricket schedule involving the ICC World Cup and the start of the
ashes.
Moeen Ali loves to play for
Worcestershire and gives everyone a boost in the locker room when he comes back
and plays for us. We hope he'll be back soon. All-rounder Moeen Ali is the
world leader in wicket testing in the last 12 months, with 48 scalps in 10
matches averaging 25.27.
However, he has struggled for
form in recent outings and was abandoned during the World Cup due to concerns
about his batting. In the tests, he has recorded seven scores of a single
figure in his last nine innings, with a career average falling below 30.
England captain Joe Root said:
Moeen, a 60-test veteran, could regain his
place. As he demonstrated last summer, by entering that Indian series with a massive influence on him, there's no reason why he can't come back and do the
same thing again and try to force his return to the team.
You know, he's been a big part of
English cricket, he's done some fantastic things in a test jersey. And it's
certainly not the last we'll see of him, he's a good character, a great man and
he gives a lot to this team. I'm sure it won't be long before
you get back involved.
