Shoaib Akhtar Requests Mohammad Amir to Take Back Test Retirement
Former
speed star Shoaib Akhtar has asked Pakistan's fast-paced aspirant, Mohammad
Amir, to take retirement back. Amir, who was Pakistan's leading wicket-taker at
the World Cup, decided to leave the test bench last month at the age of 27.
His
sudden retirement from red cricket in favor of white cricket at a time when the
ICC Test Championship was on the verge of shocking the cricket world.
The
decision was not in favor of Shoaib Akhtar, who is also in the running for the
position of the national chief selector. The former coach, who had previously
taken Amir to the cleaners for his "selfish" decision, has now
softened his voice to persuade the quick left-arm pitcher to reconsider his
retirement. Amir faces a clash with former cricketer after retirement.
"Amir
should come out of retirement and play for Pakistan because the country needs
him. I believe you can only become a legend by playing for your country because
no one remembers his performances in county cricket. "
In
his previous statement, Akhtar had said that Amir's decision would set a bad
precedent for other fast bowlers. This would pave the way for other retirees
such as Wahab Riaz, Hassan Ali and Junaid Khan, who will retire.
