Vikram Rathour New Batting Coach of India
Former
Indian-born player Vikram Rathour will replace Sanjay Bangar as the new Indian
team batting coach. Bharath Arun and R. Sridhar will continue their work as
steamer coaches and coaches, respectively.
The
Senior Selection Committee for All India headed by MSK Prasad has selected
three names for each of the support staff positions, and the most prestigious
names in each category will be named once the formalities are completed.
Rathour, 50, competed in 6 tests and 7 ODIs for India but was a national
heavyweight for Punjab. Until a few years ago, he was a high-level national
selector chaired by Sandeep Patil.
Previously,
he had applied for the position of NCA strike consultant and U-19 batting
coach, but his candidacy was suspended, with his brother-in-law, Ashish Kapoor,
chairing the U19 selection committee.
"Vikram
Rathour has enough experience and we are convinced of his skills (as a coach).
"We will ask him to declare if there is a conflict," BCCI Director
General Rahul Johri told reporters.
According
to the selection committee's recommendations, the current coach of the Indian
team, Sanjay Bangar, finished second, while former England batsman Mark
Ramprakash was third.
"Team
management had their views but, in the future, we felt the support staff needed
to be fresher".
Former
Mumbai Indian physio Nitin Patel, who was on the support staff during the 2011
World Cup campaign, is back as England's Luke Woodhouse has been named a
strength and fitness coach.
