Virat Kohli, First Batsmen to Score 20,000 Runs in a Decade
India's skipper Virat Kohli
became the first and only batsmen to score 20,000 international runs in a
decade. He made this record during the team's six-wicket victory against the
West Indies in 3rd ODI on Wednesday (August 14th, 2019). And now Virat Kohli Becomes King of the Decade.
Virat Kohli has won the
205020-runs in all formats, of which he has obtained 20018 from 2010 onwards.
Kohli made his Debut in Test and T20I in 2010 but had already scored 484 runs
in ODI cricket at the time in the previous decade, having made his ODI debut in
2008. Kohli's achievement takes him ahead of former Australian captain Ricky
Ponting, who held the record for most international runs scored in a decade
with 18962 races in the 2000s.
Former South African, All-rounder
Jacques Kallis is third on the list with 16777-runs in the 2000s, while former
Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene and Kumarakka Sangra are 4th and 5th on
the list with 16304 and 15999 runs, respectively.
Sachin Tendulkar is sixth with 15962-runs
in the 2000s, while Rahul Dravid completed the top seven with 15853-runs. Virat
Kohli admitted after the match that he took pride in performing for the team
when they needed it most, having scored a 114 of 99 balls to guide his team
home. Virat Kohli said
I've been around for a while.
Experience counts in pressure situations, understanding where the game is
headed and what I need to do in terms of the pace of the game. So obviously you
want to be proud to support the team as much as you can and I'm very proud of
that. Having won the T20I 3-0 series and the ODI 2-0 series, India will now
face the West Indies in a Two-Test match series that will begin on August 22 at
North Sound, Antigua.
