Virat Kohli is Excited for ICC Test Championship
Before
the first test against the West Indies, Indian skipper Virat Kohli said the ICC
World Test Championship was the right stage. The world number one test batsman
believes that the test championship was introduced at the right time because it
will bring a lot of meaning to the format. The first edition of the ICC Test
Championship began on August 1, 2019.
India
will launch its campaign in the championship in West Indies Vs India Test
Matches. Virat Kohli said the trials would now be much more competitive as he
welcomed the decision to start the Championship.
"The
cricketers are going to be a lot more competitive and that makes a lot of sense
to the test matches you play. This is the right thing to do and the right
time".
In
the championship, a total of 71 test games will be played over 27 series over
two years. The top two teams will then compete in the ICC World Test
Championship final in June 2021 in the UK. The ongoing Ashes between Australia
and England started the Test Championship before New Zealand and Sri Lanka also
began their campaign. India and the West Indies will be the last registrations
for the club.
Virat
Kohli added that the level of cricket testing had increased in the last two
years. He concluded by stating that teams will now aim for a victory to
guarantee maximum points in matches.
"People
said the cricket test was irrelevant or endangered. For me, the competition has
doubled in the last two years. It's up to the players to rise to the challenge
and win". "This will also be the essence of this Test Championship.
There will be hardly any boring prints. There will be exciting draws because
everyone will want to get those extra points".
