Pakistani players break records in Karachi Test

In the second test match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan 2019, green shirts created records and entered the record books.

Here's a look at the records Pakistani cricketers have made in the Karachi Test.

The big four

Shan Masood, Babar Azam, Azhar Ali and Abid Ali scored tons in the second inning against Sri Lanka. This was only the second time in Test Cricket that the top four hitters had scored a century.

Wasim Jaffer, Dinesh Karthik, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar of India scored tonnes against Bangladesh in 2007.

Babar Azam loves Sundays

Interestingly, Babar Azam has scored his four tons of proof on a Sunday.

Record opening association
The 278-runs of Abid Ali and Shaan Masod were the second-largest opening association for Pakistan in Testing.

Masood criticized 135 for his second century in his 19th test, while Ali contributed 174. The duo were just 20 to equal the highest opening spot for Pakistan in 298.

Amir Sohail and Ijaz Ahmed had set that record against the West Indies in the same place in 1997.

Centuries in the same entries

The opening stand of Abid Ali and Shah Masood was not just a record opening stand. They also became the third opening pair for Pakistan to hit centuries in the same innings.

Abid Ali: the record

Abid Ali became the first Pakistani to score centuries in his first two tests.

Ali only needed 137 deliveries to reach the milestone, at which point he had shattered 14 fours and sixes. The 32-year-old had also scored 109 undefeated in the rainy draw test at Rawalpindi.

Most run after two tests

Abid Ali has amassed 321 runs in his short career, which is the highest figure for a Pakistan i.e. hitter in the first two races of his career.

He surpassed the record of 315 runs of former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly.

The openers surpassed the previous innings
It was only the second time in Pakistan's history that the starting position was more than the whole team had scored in the first innings. The Green Men had only managed to score 191 in the first innings.

Azhar Ali's 16th test

Captain Azhar Ali scored his 16th-century test at the second inning of the second test. This was Ali's first ton since he took over as captain.

Naseem Shah becomes the youngest fast bowler to take a five-wicket haul

Naseem Shah became the youngest fast bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a test entrance. Shah, 16 years and 311 days, beat compatriot Mohammad Amir.

Amir had claimed five wickets against Australia at the age of 17 and 257 days in 2009 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Shah collected the wickets from Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Dilruwan Perera, Lasith Embduldeniya and Vishwa Fernando to finish with 5/31 in 12.5 overs.
