Jason Roy Another Failure in Test Cricket
In
England, Jason Roy continued his bad run with the bat in the longest format of
the match. Playing for the sixth time in his round at the 2019 Ashes on
Saturday, Roy was sacked at just 7 of 21, to record another disappointment with
the bat.
He
seemed unimpressed by his dismissal and delivered an F-bomb before returning to
the flag taken from the broadcaster's camera, reflecting his frustration with
his failures with the bat in Tests.
Jason
Roy has played four test games so far, scoring 134 runs in eight innings,
averaging just above 16. It's not the best given the promise he made on his
Test debut against Ireland, where he scored 5 and 72. Since then, Roy's line of
scores has been 10, 28, 0, 2, 9 and 7 in the next six innings.
Although
England has a reputation for giving plenty of time to their players, especially
beginners, Jason Roy could be eliminated from the squad if England fails to
equalize in the current third Test.
Roy
was called up to the Test team after a fine white-ball cricket run, especially
at the 2019 World Cup. He has been warned, thus solving the problems of the
opening of England, but his poor performance will now see the selectors turn to
other options.
They
could ask Joe Denly to open his sleeves and place himself in Ollie Pope in the
middle order or, in another scenario, England may call an uncapped county
cricketer. The result of the third test will have a decisive influence on the
future of Roy's test.
England
has 203 runners with seven wickets in hand. After losing both openers for 15,
skipper Joe Root and Denly shared 126 points for the third wicket to lead the
score. At the stumps, Root and Ben Stokes were on 75 and 2 respectively and
hope to get the job done on the fourth day. Australia has the heavy task of
recovering the rest of seven wickets to secure victory and preserve the ashes.
