Poonam Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja Receives Arjuna Award
Poonam
Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja received the Arjuna Award, an honour awarded by the
Indian government for outstanding individual sporting achievements.
While
Poonam received the award from Indian President Ramnath Kovind at the
Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday, Jadeja missed the ceremony due to
"Team India tasks". He is currently touring the West Indies with
Virat Kohli and Co.
Poonam
and Jadeja was among the four cricketers, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah
being the others, recommended by BCCI for the Arjuna Prize in April. They were
the only cricketers among the 19 athletes to receive this award this year.
Poonam
is the third female cricketer in India - and the eleventh overall since 1976 -
to win the award, after skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and opener Smriti Mandhana.
Jadeja
is the latest recipient of the Arjuna Prize from an elite list of current and
former cricketers, including Sunil Gavaskar, Sachinrender Tendulkar, Sourav
Ganguly, Viehwag, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, to name a few.
