Ashes 2019, 4th Test Played Without Any Bails on the Stumps
Due
to adverse weather conditions at Old Trafford in Manchester, the match of the
first day of the fourth Ashes Test 2019 was interrupted. Wind and rain
interrupted the game on a few occasions, leaving only 44 overs in surplus on
the first day. At the end of the Australian round, items such as the pack of
beach balls and tokens had access to the field due to strong winds. High winds
also toppled obstacles, causing frustration and delay.
"The
wind is so strong that the helmet on the ground behind (Jonny) Bairstow rolls.
Bail bonds are gone. It's chaos," said BBC commentator Daniel Norcross.
The
referees on the pitch, Kumar Dharmasena, and Marais Erasmus, answered the call
to distribute the bails and continue the match. This unusual show was in the
rules of the game. Under Law 8.5, "Arbitrators may agree to waive the use
of bonds if necessary. If they consent, no deposit will be used at either end.
The purpose of the sureties must be resumed as soon as conditions permit.

the bonds don't go away? We paid money for this branding and sponsorship.
